Authentic Leadership

You're a manager, a boss, a supervisor, a chief but are you a leader? And are you in turn an authentic leader? A leader is a manager, a boss, a supervisor and a chief but is also a teacher, inspirational, a motivator and an authentic leader does all those things while keeping the aims of the business at the forefront of their day to day tasks. That is sacrificing their own personal goals for the greater cause of the business to which they are dedicated. They put ego aside (their own and of those they lead!) and commit themselves to ensuring those they lead, work hard for the bottom line as well as the ethos of the business.
There is much debate around the subject of managers being created as opposed to leaders being born but methods have been devised to help those responsible for targets and employees learn how to be a leader and most of us have a moral code so to become an authentic leader can indeed be taught and learnt.
Mike Ponting of business training company Making The link has pioneered effective training methods for ensuring managers can become leaders and be authentic leaders at that. "We've developed techniques that can help the most timid and the most experienced managers learn how to inspire, influence and impact on those who work for them while all the time maintaining integrity".
Managing people is often thought to be juggling personalities and their issues, be they business related or otherwise. Mike says "We recognize that managers have a job to do aside of their management tasks. Making The Link training programs ensure our candidates learn to be mentors to their staff while still having time to remain focused on the main responsibilities of their own individual role".
To truly lead by example and be authentic takes discipline and dedication but will ultimately provide employees, managers and the business with the greatest outcome for all.
