Making the Link make a difference

There is a new team competing in the Kinabalu Challenge in Borneo in November 2010 to raise funds for The Anthony Nolan Trust.

The team comprises Regional Director Warren Portlock and Equine Vet Peter Thurlow who will all spend eight days in the jungle competing in an endurance adventure race in the heart of the Borneo jungle. It combines trekking, running, cycling, rafting, and abseiling as well as jungle survival. The event culminates in a dawn hike to the summit of Mount Kinabalu, 4,100m above sea level. Mike Ponting Director of Making the Link will be making a series of short films of the event illustrating just how much of a challenge this is!

This is a tough gig, but that's why corporate trainer Mike Ponting is taking part. Mike enjoys the personal challenge of taking part in such an energy-sapping race. He also loves the challenge of creating a team in tough circumstances, bringing out the best in themselves and each other to achieve a common goal; success - making the link between developing personal skills and expertise to help others recognise their strengths and in turn benefit others by raising money for charity. We're all familiar with the formula; fit body + fit mind = peak performance and how doing something for others boosts personal morale and confidence. Confident people also perform at their peak.

Making the link between high performers and translating that into the workplace is what Mike does best. See this in action on a training weekend in Snowdonia.

Mike will also be making a series of short films of the event and visiting Raleigh International projects in Borneo which tell a powerful story...

It'll be tough but all the money raised is for a great charity which quite simply saves lives. The Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with leukemia by matching them with stem cell donors. The Trust raises money to recruit new donors onto the register, carry out ground breaking research and run education programs. The more people on the register, the more matches can be found and the more lives can be saved.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure and your money goes directly to the charity and Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer so even more money can be given to The Anthony Nolan Trust.
